3rd Nov 2025: El Fasher, Sudan

A Causes.Show crisis briefing - Dave speaks with Arjan Hehenkamp, the Sudan Crisis Lead for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) about the huge unknown over the fate of the 245,000 estimated people currently unaccounted for in El Fasher, Darfur, Sudan.

Earlier today, on MSNBC, David Miliband, president and CEO of IRC, said that IRC warned that when El Fasher fell, the danger was of mass killing. "There's very few people getting out of El Fasher. That tells us people are being penned in. Stories of escapees suggest mass killings."

Since RSF seized El Fasher:

  • there's been widespread mass killings. Yale Humanitarian Lab say satellite imagery of piles of bodies and bloodstained ground is consistent with people killed while trying to flee.

  • there's been attacks on hospitals (the World Health Organization say more than 460 patients and companions killed at Saudi Maternity Hospital on 28 October).

The big question right now is - what's happened to the people of El Fasher?
